HENGSHUI GUANGXING SCREENS wedge wire support grid provides a false bottom in a lauter tun in many breweries. The lauter tun screen sits on a ledge that is positioned on the inside diameter of the tank.  It  may also be necessary to have support beams depending on loading and tank diameter.

Wedge wire screen support grid is made of all stainless steel materials or nickel alloy materials, including the wedge wire screen, frames and other accessories. The high quality material make the wedge wire screen support grid corrosion and rust resistance and long service life. Compared with woven wire mesh or perforated metal, wedge wire has continuous slots, which have higher open area and precise openings. It can supply more precise filtering performance, higher strength and more durable life.

Types of wedge wire screen support grid

Wedge wire screen support grid has various types, it can be whole type, and it can also be divided into several parts. The whole type is mainly in small diameter. The large diameter support grid will be divided into several parts for convenient transportation and installation.

• 59 3/4" OD made in 5 sections
• 93V wedge wire on .074" × 3/4" support rods at 1 1/2" centers.
• Nominal slot openings: 0.030".
• 1/8" × 1" banding around each section four.
• -.074" × 1 1/2" seal strips (shipped loose) all.
• Type 304 stainless steel.

However, some inherent problems still exist in these false bottoms:

• The false bottom is clogged, reducing the flow rate;
• Low filtration efficiency prevents grains from passing the false bottom into the wort, clogging the pump for recycling or transferring the wort to the next process;
• The false bottom is bent or moved out of position, resulting in the mash pass through with the wort together.
• Wedge wire screen panel false bottom is manufactured in a unique way. The wires are V-shaped with the wider end at the top, providing excellent support for the mash bed. As the wires with narrow end at the bottom, the space between wires becomes wider, providing a greater open area and allowing more worth to pass through. In the wedge screen manufacturing process, parallel support rods are welded to the wires. This leaves only two contact points on the wedge wire, which reduces clogging. In addition, the smooth surface of the wedge wire makes cleaning easier.

There are various benefits of using a false bottom made of wedge wire screen. These benefits provide an excellent alternative to solve the known problems inherently exist in other materials:

• Large opening area with precise slot size, providing a high wort flow rate;
• Higher mechanical strength to better support the grain;
• Better efficiency to prevent grains from trapping or clogging holes;
